A step in the healing direction

My mother in law recently lost her short battle with cancer. My husband and I decided to let the school counselor know before she passed that our 7th graders would be going through a hard time since they are so close to their grandma.
The counselor let us know that she would give the kids this book after she passed and that it would not only be a tool to read but also sort of a workbook so they could work through their feelings. We decided to go ahead and purchase one for our highschooler also. I am very pleased with this book. There are not enough tools readily available for parents when tragedy strikes. We will all be heart broken for a long time and I know this book won't fix that but it is definitely a stepping stone for our children.

Absolutely Amazing! This is like a gateway and once the teen steps through the expression of emotions is opened. The activities allow options for the therapist to start slowly or to delve in immediately if that is where the client would benefit. I use this eit adults as well.
My disappointment comes in due to relocating and several books and play therapy toys/supplies were not delivered

I just started a grief support group for teens and I have gathered a number of books on the subject however this is THE BEST book I have found for teens. The journal pages are right on and allow the teen to think and express feelings in their own way. An excellent book every grieving teen, or adult, should have.

Easily the best book for serious futures traders wanting to make money

My title says it all, if you are a small speculator looking to make money in the markets then this is the best place to start. It is a must that you need to know what the biggest players in the markets are doing, and the best part is it is free to access, and the fact that the information is a week(?) old makes no difference if you are a trader who is looking to trade on a daily or weekly chart. I found it most helpful to use barchart.com. They have all the COT data already linked to a chart so there is no need to type in the numbers with microsoft excel or anything like that. I use the Commitment of Traders Line Chart. Once you apply this information a whole new world of futures trading will open up to you

Finally a book that puts the COT report in the proper perspective

This is the first book that I've read that shows how to properly use the Commitment of Traders report. In simple language, Larry systematically walks readers through the use of the information contained in the COT report to set up trades -- he even discloses a new indicator that is much more powerful than any other index related to the COT report I've seen thus far. When I started using this indicator in my trades, I saw my profits soar. Definitely a must have for the serious futures trader -- whether an expert or a novice!

A very good methodology for interprting the COT reports for trading

I have read the other reviews and found them to be inaccurate. The COT report is unique to futures however Larry has developed another indicator that provides a similar indicator that is applicable to stocks and futures markets that do not have COT reports available. Exit criteria are discussed on numerous occasions. While entrances are subjective Larry mentions this repeatedly, saying that trading involves 2 steps: 1) setup, which the COT reports can help provide and 2) entry trigger, which he provides some simple techniques he has used over the years.

While there are references to his advisory and educational services as well as the data/charting company that he uses they are not simply marketing gimmicks. When I study analysts, advisors and the like I prefer to be able to exactly duplicate their studies and verify them for myself and Larry's references are very beneficial in that regard.

Larry is truly one of the good guys in this oft misunderstood industry. He has been around for a long time and hopefully will be around for a long time to come.

Wildfie - about a horse and a fire

This was a very enjoyable story - although somewhat sad in the end - I enjoyed it very much. It's basically a story about a young woman back in the 1800s, who meets a young man and how their relationship grows around a wild horse he caught and she tamed.

Descriptive landscape

Zane Grey is forever a painter of western landscape. His descriptions of mountain trails, sagebrush and western topography allow the reader to be transported to America's frontier heritage. There is limited suspense in the developing romance between characters, but you always know that strong personalities prevail and good triumphs over evil. I enjoyed revisiting Wildfire on the Kindle.

Awesome!

I highly recommend this book. It is an awesome story of the Wild West. Zane Grey captures the essence of the west and paints such a wonderful picture of the Durango, Colorado area. This story starts with the thrilling capture of a wild stallion and continues with the effects that the horse has on the young lady who won the stallions trust and love. The young lady is a heroine and the horse is a hero. I first read this book as a teenager and it had such an impact on my dreams that I vowed to visit this area of Colorado when I reached adulthood. I have visited this area numerous times and will always feel a sense of home when I am in Durango.

Just recently, I was in the southern plains of Colorado in the Mesa Verde Valley, not far from Durango. My husband was driving and quickly got off to the side of the dirt road we were traveling. He jumped out of the car and all he said was "Wild horses!" As I jumped out of the car along side of him, we looked off of the cliff where we were parked. We noticed a small herd of mustangs. It is a picture that will be etched in my heart forever. As I grabbed my camera and took a picture, the stallion of the herd looked up at me with understanding and a peacefulness that I cannot explain. The snow capped Rockies in the background along with the peaceful herd of beautiful wild animals allowed me to get a glimpse of the past and reminded me of the days of "Wildfire".

Grade 4-6-In 1707, after nearly 2000 sailors and four ships were lost in one stormy night off England's coast, Parliament passed the Longitude Act guaranteeing 20,000 pounds sterling ($12 million today) for a method to navigate the seas with certitude. It was known that latitude could be measured, but to determine longitude-distance east or west of a point-a method had yet to be devised. In an engaging manner, Lasky relates the mad ideas that were considered, including barking dogs, tiptoeing, and a fire on deck before examining the inventive life and mind of a genius who solved the problem. John Harrison, a village carpenter and a self-taught polymath, elegantly reasoned that the answer lay in a timepiece itself. It would take more than 35 years and five prototypes before Harrison was satisfied, although his very first model barely lost a second on its first voyage. It would take a petition to the king before the inventor's solution won any prize money, and even then, he was refused the prize. The book begins with a shipwreck, dramatizing the fact that the longitude puzzle was not just a matter of academic or economic importance but a life-and-death question for those who sailed the seas. After introducing some of the more absurd solutions proposed for tracking longitude, the discussion turns to young John Harrison, who was 21 when the Longitude Prize was offered by the British Parliament. Lasky shows how, over the next half-century, Harrison worked to design and perfect a timepiece that would earn the prize. Not every child will understand the technical challenge discussed; however, the text makes absorbing reading both for its sidelights on history and for the personal drama portrayed. Harrison emerges as an admirable, if idiosyncratic, individual whose story is well worth telling. Atmospherically lit and richly colored, Hawkes' large-scale paintings are often striking in their overall effects and intriguing in their details. Valuable Life Lessons

I love this book not only for the superb illustrations, but also for the important message that it relays to children. Perseverance, hard work, and scientific discovery matter, even when you don't receive the public acclaim and financial rewards that you may deserve.

A very informational picture book

The Man Who Made Time Travel by Kathryn Lasky is a true story about a man who built clocks. John Harrison was nothing more than a villager who rang and tuned the bells at the church. He had never had a formal education, but learned a great deal about mathematics through carpentry. He later realized that he could combine both his hobbies of carpentry and working with bells. He built many of the most precise time keeping clocks known to man. He worked hard his whole life in perfecting his work, and is known as one of the finest clock makers.

This short story is very informational and I learned a great deal from it about things I did not know. I learned about John Harrison and how he helped solve the longitude problem for sea ships. I think this would be a great story for children in third grade up to fifth. It is a very interesting story that also can teach children a little about history.

The Man Who Invented Time Travel

The Man Who Made Time Travel is a wonderful informational book that is able to keep young readers interested by using a narrative writing style as opposed to the expository style. The illustrations in the book follow along with the story quite well, which helps to reinforce the information inside the story. The book teaches an overall lesson of persistence while making young readers question and hypothesize on how time and space helps humans in terms of navigation. I would have really benefited by reading this book as a child, because I have always been very interested in math/science. The book even does a great job of covering several of Newton's laws of motion. This is a great book and a must buy.

Practical, helpful advice with a more edgy tone. Love it!

This book is called the Urban Monk. The author is going to be a little edgier and use that "S" word. This is not a book written for young adults or children, so the use of profanity and edgy talk is fine in this context. If this is something that will bother you, please consider this before purchasing. This book has a load of practical good advice for those looking to live a more focused, less stressful, purposeful, peaceful life while still living in a modern urban world of city traffic and carpools, deadlines, over-filled calendars, and the feeling of being pulled in every direction just making you feel like you're losing control of your life. This is not your typical touchy-feely book found in this genre. Dr. Shojai provides practical tips such as meditation, figuring out what your priorities are, Qi Gong exercises, etc, to help you reset your life and get back in control. When I read this book, I felt like Dr. Shojai knew exactly what kind of time and scheduling restraints I'm dealing with, which made me want to try his advice. So far, I have to say it's worked wonders!

I love this book. I wish I simply could get you to buy it and trust me on this instead of having to write a long review about all the simple, yet life changing things it has taught me. Since reading this book I have drastically cut down my coffee consumption and started drinking teas that I have never heard of before. I am much calmer and more focused when I drink the teas as compared to when I drink the coffees. I have started to do some weird exercises that you can watch on the internet by doing a search of the Urban Monk. I couldn't stop reading it. Even when I was tired I wanted to get to the end of the book so I could at least do the exercises. Everything in this book is easy to do and can change the way you feel. So if you want to improve your life and the life of everyone around you, I suggest buying this, doing the exercises, and buying extra copies for your friends.

Not for folks who are easily offended and live in denial

This book is like Navy Seal training for everyday life. If you are looking for another "warm and fuzzy" hand holding self help book, you might want to skip this one. Pedram is blunt and obviously knows his stuff. Some argue that the information in this book is nothing new, I disagree, but even so it is sometimes the delivery method that hits home. I challenge you to not find anything in this book that you can not relate to, especially if there are things in your life that don't seem to be working. Get with the program, get off your ass, read the book, do the work...watch your life change, for the better.

Lesson in the soulful style of Grant Green

~ This package, part of Hall Leonard "Signature Licks" series, contains an informative but brief introduction to the history of Grant Green, transcriptions and detailed analysis of each transcription (all by Wolf Marshall), and a CD by an in-house quartet that demonstrates the transcriptions.
~ The 88-page book/CD package contains the songs listed below. I have indicated the CD that contains the original GG version of the tune. I have also added notes that hopefully will be helpful to people thinking about purchasing this book/CD combo.

Great Product

I think all enthusiasts of Grant Green should be grateful to Wolf Marshall for this product. GG's technique and musicality deserve great study and admiration. Thanks to Wolf Marshall's guide more and more people will be able to give it just that. The transcriptions are faultlessly accurate and the choice of tracks is excellent.

Wolf Marshall?

I've had a long-time love/hate thing with Wolf Marshall, not only in this series of products, but also in his work in publications such as "Vintage Guitar. "

I think he does fantastic work with a range of artists who have wonderful things to say on the guitar. And this collection of Grant Green tunes is no exception. I've loved working through this book. It has definitely added to my jazz vocabulary. The formats of the text and the CD are very usable, particularly with a Tascam guitar trainer. I highly recommend this for the guitarist who would like to go deeper into the Grant Green groove.

That said, I have two small quibbles with Mr. Marshall's transcriptions and explanations:

1) I find many of his fingerings "non-obvious." I often encounter situations where Mr. Marshal has chosen fingerings that require multiple fret leaps from position to position, when it's obvious that a) the notes are readily available on a lower string within the same vertical position, and b) it sounds like that's exactly what the guitarist is doing - particularly at fast tempos.

2) I really enjoy his analysis of the solos - themes, counter themes, influences, etc. However, Mr. Marshall has a penchant for dense, musical terminology. About the tenth time I read terms such as "mordent" and "appoggiatura" I finally broke out the dictionary. Although he is certainly employing these terms accurately, this practice distracts from, rather than illuminating, the discussion.
