"JUSTICE NOT VENGEANCE"

Simon Wiesenthal had a desk that never ceased to have an impossible stack of papers upon it. He is known for all of the Nazi murderers and other terrorists he tracked down, but we don't know the number of all of the murderers who were never apprehended. I am sure the number is staggering and probably the papers on his desk do not have a complete list of the perpetrators.

What's amazing to me is how people would help these thugs escape. After the war, it became clear, largely from Simon Wiesenthal's work, that people from inside the Vatican helped Nazi's escape and settle mostly in South America, mostly in impossible outposts like Uruguay or Paraguay-OOOOOO.

The Nazi's had a game they loved to play inside the walls of the concentration camps. It was a camp rule that inmates would be shot if they tried to climb the electrified fence. Some days they would charge the prisoners to touch the fence or otherwise they'd be shot. You were proverbially damned if you did and damned if you didn't and of course dead in the end. The strangest thing to me, but not too surprising, is how so many of the Nazi camp commandants were nice people, good church going people who would never do the things they were purported to do. It's all so incomprehensible to me, but the stories Simon Wiesenthal tells have been corroborated by many others. PLEASE READ.

One who found evil and sought to right it,
Knew of Justice and tried to attain it.
Had a conscience and felt morally compelled to follow it.

Unlike many who succeeded him, adopting titled positions of Nazi Hunter, Simon's conscience wasn't bought, paid for, or enhanced by a government pay check.

Albeit he frequently lamented the loss of his original profession, that of architect, he became an architect of moral conscience in the post-World War 2 era.

Reserve for praise and admiration those uncompensated who did the right thing based solely upon conscience, rather than those who in actuality did the right thing for sake of and in exchange for a pay check, who later sought and laid claim to public recognition for having acted upon conscience.

Excellent, clear, readable

As a gardener who's been looking at online soil maps, I wanted to know a little more about soil and the meaning of some of these terms. Reading this book has been immensely helpful and generally enjoyable - I can understand it, and it makes sense. College chemistry being more than 20 years behind me, some things like clay chemical structure have been difficult to make sense of, and there's a lot of specialized vocabulary that's made the soil classification chapter unclear. But in general, I'm amazed that I can read this book without huge mental effort and chapter after chapter it continued to be understandable. The only complaint is that there are no photographs, and a good number of the illustrations provide no help or are less clear than they could be - I think some better illustations would help clarify clay chemical structure.

I highly recommend this book.

A collection of facts; other books are more useful

This has the feel of a book which was written to be a textbook for a class. The "facts" are all in there, but it has an academic feel to it. I'm a practitioner and got this book for a class.

The writing is ok but sometimes I found it unnecessarily technical. Also at times I struggled to connect to application.

If you get this book for a class, it's ok. But if you actually need to do things for your farm, I'd recommend getting a practitioner's book. Along those lines, the other "Soil Science Simplified" with the red cover, is more practical.

A kid-teaser and pleaser

Jack Crackbone is a bullying story told with the simplistic cartoons that kids crave--in the style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but with less written language. An added appeal is that it starts off "scary." The bully character turns out to be just another hurting human who wants to be liked. From my fifteen years' experience working with kids, I think the book will be a kid-pleaser.

Definitely don't recommend

I bought this book directly from the publisher along with their exam simulator and flashcards. I also signed-up for their PMI-PBA virtual class. Unfortunately, that was all a huge mistake....the book and prep material are inadequate preparation for the exam and the virtual class is the worst professional development class that I have ever taken (I actually called the company directly and provided feedback. I thought it was interesting they told me that "due to other student feedback/complaints they were going to investigate", but they were unwilling to resolve the issues.). After my experiences with this publisher, their material, and their classes I doubt that I will purchase any of their products again. However, I found "PMI-PBA Certification Study Guide" by Elizabeth Larson is an outstanding PMI-PBA exam prep book and it is very thorough and was very solid preparation for the exam. A Great Book For PMI-PBA Exam

I think I may be one of the few people who bought this book upon its release, directly from the publisher. The book is great, and there is no doubt that It's a great reflection of PMI Study Guide "Business Analysis a practitioner's guide", defined in easy words and memorizing is easy unlike PMIs guide, which is drier in the sense and hard to absorb its contents.
Questions in this book were easy and not like in real exam. I mostly scored above average but exam's difficulty was immense. I didn't pass the exam, but will try again, using the same book.
There is no publisher in market who would combine PMBOK guide and BA guide one book. I expected that from this book, but the guide does not explain PMBOK related processes/material in details. Having a good grip over PMBOK for BA exam is necessary. This book, however, expects you to already know the PMBOK guide.

This is a little overwhelming and dwells on reputation of Rita Mulachay's PMP series.
I would seriously consider Watermark learning's study guide to this given that they worked on creating the PMI PBA study guide and are long term patrons of IIBA and related BA material.

About the Author

Andrew Holmes-Siedle is a physicist and consultant to Brunel University of West London, collaborating on CERN research and developing silicon devices. He previously spent over ten years working in Princeton (USA) on space and defence programmes and owns REM Oxford Ltd..
Len Adams is a consultant to Spur Electron, advising the British National Space Centre and other agencies. He is also an Associate Professor at Brunel University of West London. He recently retired from the European Space Agency in The Netherlands, where his group handled most of the radiation problems for the Agency.

About the Author
Lea R. Dopson is Chair and Associate Professor of the Hospitality management program at the University of North Texas. Previously, she taught at Cal Poly Pomona, the University of Houston, and Texas Tech University, Lea holds an Ed.D. from University of Houston, and an MBA and BS in Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management from Texas Tech University. her areas of teaching include hospitality managerial accounting, hospitality finance, and food and beverage cost controls. She is published in a variety of journals and has presented her research at numerous conferences. She has also co-authored with David Hayes, Food and Beverage Cost Control, published by John Wiley & Sons, which is presently in its fourth edition. Lea spent nine months in Zimbabwe, Africa, developing a degree program in international hospitality and tourism,. In addition to her academic career, she has held various unit and corporate hospitality management positions with Texas tech Foodservice, Sheraton Hotels, and Bristol Hotels.

David K. Hayes earned his Ph.D. in Education from Purdue University, as well as MS and BS degrees in Hotel/Restaurant Management. He held faculty positions at Purdue University and the University of Houston. At Texas Tech University he founded the Restaurant/Hotel program and served as Chair of the Department of Nutrition, Education and Restaurant/Hotel Management. Dr. Hayes was Vice President of the Educational Institute (E.I.) of the American Hotel and Lodging Association and was responsible for the development of training programs utilizing advanced technology delivery systems. An industry practitioner as well as academician, for six years he was the Owner/General Manger of the full-service Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Lansing, Michigan. An accomplished author, his scholarly articles have appeared in The Cornell Quarterly. He has written 12 books, including texts translated into Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, and Croatian. he is now a full-time author who divides his professional writing and industry advising activities between offices in Okemos, Michigan and Jamestown, Tennessee.

This book is perfect.

It has an easy-to-read language for english speakers and for those who doesn't speak english as mother language. It's complete, all you have to know about hospitality managerial accounting, without talking the same stuff over and over again. And for those who are not very familiarized with basics of accounting, it has a great review of them in it firsts chapters.

MOST DIFFICULT BOOK TO NAVIGATE!!!

I don't even know how I managed to get through this semester with this book. There are NO PAGE numbers!!! What the hell is a LOCATION PAGE!?

Excellent 3rd edition, but the missing chapters are not cool....

I own the second edition of this book and greatly anticipated this third edition. I was not disappointed. I found this version to be easier to understand compared to the second edition. The chapters have been thoroughly expanded. For example, in the second version, chapter four discussed day and night lighting and global illumination. In the third, those areas are still discussed, but atmosphere and underwater lighting has been included as well as alternate methods to GI. This book is used as a textbook in many universities and these new editions come off as specific answers to specific questions; something I like very much. The chapter on character lighting has also been expanded by ten pages to include topics like spill lights and how to effectively light the iris;very welcome additions for character artists like me.

This book alone is worth five stars, but taking out chapter ten and the "Getting a Job in 3D Lighting" section (both previously available in the second edition) and having readers register with peachpit.com just to have access to content we already paid for is not cool. Now yet another company will have access to our email addresses and other personal information."Getting a Job in 3D Lighting" is valuable, but having to get it this way is a cheap marketing method I did not appreciate. This practice is not new , but other computer animation books I have purchased offer bonus content on their sites for everyone to download without requiring an account. As a big fan of this book, I hope this will not be present for any future editions.

A must have for everyone who is interested in lighting 3D scenes

I bought the 2nd edition of this, and even if it doesn't really feel that outdated when it comes to methodology this 3rd edition is improved in every regard. The fact that the 2nd edition still holds it's own today should say something about the knowledge and work the author puts into it.

It's updated with more information about popular technologies like ptex, and it reflects increased popularity and speed of global illumination in feature films.

He starts by explaining concepts of lighting, both technological and artistic. He continues going into specific methods and ways to use technology to achieve certain looks. Common errors are highlighted, good to know tricks are shown.

It manages to be generic and non-software specific where it needs to be, but still points you in the right direction when it comes to specific technology which may or may not be supported by your preferred software and other methods you may want to try to get a specific look.

The second edition has been recommended to me by VFX professionals, and it's with good reason. This is an improved version in every regard.

Very good update

The 2nd edition was already an outstanding book. I'm just an amateur in 3D but Birn's work has been immensely helpful to clarify lot of things I had heard about but never seen in detail.

The book gives a good look at the many aspects of the 3D rendering process without going too deep into technicalities : as such, it is a fitting read for beginners and intermediate users alike.

I'm re-reading the 3rd edition right now, I really liked the part related to the linear workflow (gamma correction), which to be honest had always puzzled me a bit in the past, but here it is explained with good clarity.

I definitely recommend this book, especially if you are just beginning your exploration into 3D. It will give you a first background of knowledge and put you on the right path.

u cannot follow everything but still is okay if you are a follower of ayurveda..the thing i dont like about the book is , it did not give any substitute for oils and homeremedy other than the producta manufactured by balaji Tambe.Need to have more home and easily available products....
